Yoga for Back Tension

Yoga for Back Tension

Back tension—especially through the mid and lower back—is one of the most common complaints I hear from my pregnant and postpartum clients.

During pregnancy, your growing baby gently pushes up on the diaphragm and changes the shape and mobility of your rib cage. After birth, those movement patterns and compensations often linger, contributing to ongoing stiffness and discomfort.

In this class, we'll focus on the areas that are often overlooked by incorporating:

  • Breathwork to improve rib cage mobility and diaphragmatic expansion

  • Gentle spinal rotation to restore healthy movement

  • Back-body expansion to release tension and improve mobility

  • Mindful movement to help you feel stronger, more mobile, and more comfortable in your body

For this class, we'll be using a Pilates ball to help facilitate movement and improve back-body expansion. If you don't have a Pilates ball, don't worry—a small pillow works just as well!

This class is designed to reduce common pregnancy and postpartum aches and pains, but you do not need to be pregnant or postpartum to benefit from this flow. If you experience mid- or low-back tightness, this class is for you.
